Vinozhito, AMHRC and MHRMI Condemn the US State Department’s Negation of the Macedonian Minority in Greece

This week the US State Department released its annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2012. In its report on Greece, under the sub-heading ”National/Racial/ Ethnic Minorities”, the following was stated about the situation and treatment of the Macedonian minority:
“The government did not recognize the existence of a Slavic dialect, called “Macedonian” by its speakers; nevertheless, a small number of its speakers identified themselves as “Macedonian,” a designation that generated strong opposition from other citizens."

An Appeal to the European Parliament for Equitable Treatment of the Republic of Macedonia

Dear MEP,
We, as representatives acting on behalf of members of the Macedonian communities, whose very existence is denied and actively negated by the authorities in Greece and Bulgaria, wish to express our deep dissatisfaction with a significant number of the amendments proposed by the Greek and Bulgarian MEPs, in regard to the progress report on the Republic of Macedonia – a country which the EU does not even have the decency to refer to by its official and democratically chosen name.
Our disappointment is based, more than anything else, on the fact that the nature of the proposed amendments promotes a politics of negation, not only of the Macedonian minorities in Greece and Bulgaria, but of the Macedonian nation itself.

Πόσες φορές δεν έχουμε ακούσει αυτές τις φράσεις, πόσες φορές δεν έχουμε αγανακτήσει με αυτούς που τα λεν γιατί στη πραγματικότητα η «Ελλάδα» δεν είναι μια χώρα δημοκρατίας, δεν είναι μια χώρα φιλόξενη και ανοιχτή.

On behalf of the ethnic Macedonians of Greece and the members of our party we would like to congratulate you on your reelection.
During your election campaign Greece was many times in the daily agenda for its economical problems. But we should not forget that except all these economical problems, there are also other important issues which should not be clouded from this crisis such as the human rights and the equality among the citizens.

Το Μνημείο βρίσκεται στην Μεσαιωνική Πόλη και οι δράστες έβαψαν με μπογιά και τις έξι πλευρές του ,παράλληλα δε σχημάτισαν την σβάστικα, αναγράφοντας και τα αρχικά ΑΜΕ, που προφανώς αναφέρονται σε άγνωστη, μέχρι στιγμής, οργάνωση.

Με αφορμή τα τελευταία γεγονότα που προκάλεσαν εθνικιστικοί κύκλοι στη Δημοκρατία της Μακεδονίας, η δημοσιογράφος Ивана КОСТОВСКА έγραψε ένα αξιολογότατο -κατά την γνώμη μας- άρθρο στην εφημερίδα Dnevnik ενάντια στους εθνικιστές της περιοχής μας
Για μια πιο σφαιρική ενημέρωση των φίλων του ιστολογίου ABECEDAR σας μεταφέρουμε τις κύριες ιδέες της δημοσιογράφου σε ελεύθερη μετάφραση και απόδοση στα ελληνικά.

Και όμως, δεν είναι όλα σάπια στο βασίλειο της Δανιμαρκίας. Το φιλελεύθερο κόμμα της "Δράσης" που δυστυχώς έμεινε εκτός του ελληνικού Κοινοβουλίου στις εκλογές του καλοκαιριού, υποστηρίζει το δίκαιο αίτημα της Στέγης Μακεδονικού Πολιτισμού και όλων των εθνικά Μακεδόνων για άμεση αναγνώριση της νόμιμης λειτουργίας της και καλεί την Ελλάδα να συμμορφωθεί άμεσα με τις σχετικές καταδικαστικές αποφάσεις του Ευρωπαϊκού Δικαστηρίου Ανθρωπίνων Δικαιωμάτων
It seems that not everything is rotten in the "Kingdom of Denmark" after all. The Greek Liberal party "Drassi" (Action), which unfortunately narrowly missed the entry into the Greek parliament in last summer's elections, supports the request of the Home of Macedonian culture and all Macedonians in Greece for immediate registration and calls upon the Greek authorities to finally respect the rulings of the European Court for Human Rights.

Greece on the verge of being convicted for yet another time from the European Court of Human Rights for continuously denying the Home of Macedonian Culture/Dom na Makedonskata Kultura its constitutional right for registration.
For over 23 years now, the so-called "cradle of democracy" provocatively refuses to comply with previous rulings of ECHR, with the EU core principles as well as its own commitments in the field of human rights. Will the newly appointed EU High Representative on Human Rights Stavros Lambrinidis interfere here or he will just wait for another shameful conviction of his own country?

Bulgarian Anti-Macedonian Bigotry from an EU MP

A statement denying the existence of minorities in Bulgaria was made last week to the Macedonian media by an MP of the European Parliament, Andrej Kovachev - a member of the ruling party in Bulgaria (GERB). Similar views have also been recently expressed by Bulgaria’s Foreign Minister, Mladenov. Such an attitude raises the question of how sincere Bulgaria was in ratifying the Framework Convention for National Minorities and aids in explaining its practical non-application in Bulgaria.

EFAy considers unacceptable the appointment of Mr. Lambrinidis as the First EU Human Rights Envoy

EFAy is seriously concerned about Ms. Ashton’s choice of the first EU Special Representative for Human Rights. We find the appointment of Mr. Stavros Lambrinidis extremely inappropriate and unacceptable because we believe that candidates for such a high profile position must have a proven track record of international and national reputation in human rights advocacy together with a solid experience in dealing with human rights violations. Not only does Mr. Lambrinidis have no good reputation in advancing human rights in his home country Greece, but he is also known as an agitator in the Greek government’s propaganda war against the Republic of Macedonia.

On 25 June 2012, the EU High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs & Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, announced that former PASOK Foreign Minister of Greece, Stavros Lambrinidis will be the inaugural Special Representative.

Αυτές οι εθνικές εκλογές δεν είναι ίδιες όπως οι προηγούμενες εκλογικές αναμετρήσεις αλλά διαφέρουν. Όχι όμως όπως νομίζει η μεγάλη πλειοψηφία των πολιτών, ότι δήθεν θα «σπάσει» το κομματικό σύστημα-κατεστημένο, αφού τέτοια εκδοχή σερβίρουν τα ΜΜΔ (Μέσα Μαζικής Διαστρέβλωσης), επειδή θα μπουν στην Βουλή κακές απομιμήσεις των κομματικών σχηματισμών. Η «διαφορά» θα είναι, μέσω της εκλογικής διαδικασίας-εκλογών, η επιβεβαίωση της εθνικοσοσιαλιστικής λογικής, του φαιοκόκκινου κυρίαρχου πολιτικού ρεύματος στην χώρα μας τόσο στην πολιτική όσο και στην κοινωνία.

Greek government 'frequently' interferes in Australian policy on Macedonia

The same catastrophic policies that led Greece to bankruptcy are unfortunately followed in the so-called "issues of national interest". As the following press release from AMHRC clearly highlights, Greece even tries to "export" its methods outside of its borders as well, by brutally interfering to the internal affairs of Australia, in regards to the Macedonian issue.

Το να αναφέρει και να ζητάει κάποιος «ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα» εν μέσω οικονομικής κρίσης μπορεί να ληφθεί ως «πολυτέλεια» για αυτούς τους δύσκολους καιρούς. Αλλά αν σκεφτούμε λογικά θα διαπιστώσουμε ότι το θέμα των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων δεν έχει να κάνει με την οικονομία. Είναι θέμα λήψης μέτρων, αποφάσεων και εφαρμογής τους από κάθε κυβέρνηση και δεν έχουν οικονομικό κόστος.

Η συζήτηση που ακολούθησε της παρουσίασης του Μακεδονο-Ελληνικού λεξικού επεκτάθηκε σε όλο το φάσμα της παρουσίας και της ιστορίας της Μακεδονικής Μειονότητας στην Ελλάδα αλλά και στις σχέσεις της πατρίδας μας με την Δημοκρατία της Μακεδονίας.
