3rd General Assembly of EFA Rainbow: Renewal for the future.

A Central Council consisting of 40% new members, a more flexible Political Secretariat and fruitful dialogue about the past, the present and the future of the Macedonian movement in Greece were the highlights of the 3rd Ordinary General Assemblt of EFA Rainbow that was held on Sunday November 11th in Gorno Vrbeni/Eksi Su/Xino Nero, Lerinsko/Florina

The GA also approved the participation of the party in the upcoming European Parliament elections, should certain political and financial conditions are met. It also authorised the newly elected bodies to make the final decision in the beginning of the new year and called upon all political forces in Greece that share our vision for a democratic country that respects and protects ethnic and linguistic diversity to join the Macedonians in these elections.

In addition the GA unanimously approved a petition urging Greece to:

1. Finally recognize its Macedonian minority
2. Introduce the Macedonian language into the public educational system throughout the areas where the language is spoken
3. Allow immediately the unconditional repatriation of the Macedonian political refugees, thus permanently closing a humanitarian issue that remains the last open wound of the Greek Civil War
4. Register without further delay ‘Home of Macedonian Culture’, according to the verdicts of the European Court of Human Rights that condemn Greece
5. Use ethnic and linguistic diversity as a tool of development, peaceful coexistence and prosperity following the experience of various EU countries and not consider them as reason for continuous and unacceptable discrimination.

EFA Rainbow would like to extend its warmest gratitude to all its members and friends who participated in the General Assembly, despite the various difficulties imposed by the Greek authorities. We would also like to thank the representatives of the OAKKE party who honoured us with their presence for yet another time, the Liberal Alliance party for its warm supportive words as well as our European family, the European Free Alliance and the Coppieters Foundation for the sincere and continuous support.

Our fight will continue with even higher intensity!
