58th session of the U.N. Committee on the
Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD)
Geneva, March 16-19, 2001
On March 16-19 a delegation consisting of members from the RAINBOW party
and the Home of Macedonian Civilization took part in the proceedings of
the 58th session of the U.N. Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
(CERD)
It is the responsibility of CERD to review official state reports and
examine whether member states are respecting the convention to eliminate
racial discrimination -- which Greece has signed. View the report which
Greece submitted to this body http://www.florina.org/html/2001/greece_cerd.doc.

RAINBOW and the Home of Macedonian Civilization in conjunction with the
International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights, Greek Helsinki Monitor
and Minority Rights Group - Greece had an opportunity to present a parallel
report to CERD on this matter. Read the parallel report http://www.florina.org/html/2001/cerd_parallel.doc.
Because this was a working meeting we had an opportunity to present the
difficulties faced by members of Greece's Macedonian minority. Through
the parallel report and our briefing we informed in detail the members
of CERD about the situation of the Macedonian minority in Greece and the
discriminatory policies of the Greek state -- not only against Macedonians
but against members of other minorities as well.
