EFA-RAINBOW sent a memorandum to the Council of Foreign Affairs' Ministers
of the EU, the EP, the EC Commissioner on Enlargement and to the UN,
regarding the name dispute between Greece and the Republic of Macedonia.

This was distributed by the EFA-EPP, which also received-through
its Co-Director Guenter Dauwen-the following answer from the President
of the above Committee Mr. Elmar Brok:
The response follows:
Dear Mr Dauwen,
Mr Brok, chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the
European Parliament, has asked me to thank you for the letter
enclosed to your e-mail. One cannot but commend the view of
your party that peace and prosperity in the region can only
be achieved
if all borders between the Balkan states are respected and
if within these borders the rights of minorities are safeguarded.
As for the question of the use of the term Macedonia, this
is, as you know, subject of negotiations within the framework
of the United Nations. One cannot but hope that the solution
which, hopefully, will be soon found is satisfactory to all
parties.
Kind regards
Christian HUBER Head of Secretariat
EFA -Rainbow takes full advantage of its active participation
in the EFA-EPP, something that was obvious one more time recently,
when EFA-EPP President, Mrs. Nelly Maes, raised the issue of
the recognition of the Macedonian minority in Greece during her
meeting
with the EC President Mr. Barroso. The political leadership
and media in Greece continue to ignore repeated appeals on this
subject.
