On May 26th and 27th the city of Rennes, France hosted the General
Assembly of the European Free Alliance - European Political Party
(EFA-EPP) and EFA Youth (EFAY).
Organizer of the General Assembly was the UDB Party, political representative
of the Bretons in France at the EFA-EPP.
EFA-Rainbow was represented at the General Assembly, together with
a representative of the OMO-Pirin (the political organization of
the Macedonian minority in Bulgaria).
The OMO-Pirin representative participated in the Assembly thanks
to the intervention of EFA - Rainbow and presented the situation
of the Macedonian minority in Bulgaria, applying at the same time
for EFA-EPP membership. The application of OMO-Pirin will be examined
at the next General Assembly.
The Assembly welcomed two parties as new EFA-EPP members. "Etnotna
Lista", (party of the Slovenian minority in Austria) and "Alands
Framtid" (organization of the Swedish-speaking community in
Aland islands, Finland).
EFA-Rainbow representatives had the opportunity to inform delegates
about recent developments regarding the problems of the Macedonian
minority in Greece. Agreeing to their proposal, the Assembly decided
to send EFA-EPP MEPs to Greece, so they can conduct an "on the
spot" review of the issues the Macedonian minority faces.
One of the main topics of the General Assembly was the adjustment
of the European Social Model to the new circumstances in the EU,
after the enlargement. EFA-EPP's organizational issues were also
discussed.
EFA-EPP participates in the European Parliament with 5 MEP's, forming
a joint parliamentary group with the European Greens.
