"I want to go back to visit Greece" says Alexander Popovski,
a 72 year old refugee "but I want to go with my head held high.
I was born a Macedonian, I will die a Macedonian – not even if
my mother came out of her grave would I say I was Greek".
Alexander Popovski is the president of the association for Macedonian
refugees from Greece in Bitola, Macedonia’s second biggest town.
Here he is photographed in the office of the association. He was forced
to enter the Democratic Army when he was 16 years old. He had been
back to Greece only once for 8 hours for a friends funeral. |
